Weld Surface Preparation and Weld Quality

Cleaning: The surfaces to be welded must be free from dirt, oil, rust and oxides. This will ensure that the weld metal forms a clean and solid joint.

As Gera Makina A.Ş., we carry out sandblasting operations in accordance with international standards. Our sandblasting operations are evaluated according to ISO 8501-1:1998 and TSE EN ISO 8501-1 standards and are classified according to the following surface cleanliness values.

Sandblasting is a method used to remove grease, dirt, rust and corrosion that form on metal surfaces over time. The life of the metal is extended with the sandblasting process and it is protected against corrosion with the coating process.
The sandblasting process is carried out using various abrasive materials (grits) with different properties. By removing rust and corrosion as well as micron-sized dirt on the metal surface, the real surface of the metal is revealed. After the sandblasting process is completed, the metal is in the corrosion and rust phase, where it is most sensitive. The metal, which is left in a humid environment after sandblasting, is exposed to oxidation within a few hours, and this manifests itself as a color change.
Therefore, the metal that is sandblasted should be protected as soon as possible and the metal should not come into contact with air. As Gera Makina, we provide these applications with our professionally trained employees. No matter how high quality the sandblasting process is, if the coating process is not done professionally, when even a point as small as a pinhead comes into contact with air, corrosion will inevitably spread from that point to the entire metal. Therefore, it is extremely important that the coating process is carried out by a professional team and equipment.
